MFT CEO highlights multigenerational mindsets at work

Bridging the generation gap in the workplace, MFT Group of Companies CEO Mica F. Tan shared the importance of managing a multigenerational office to better appreciate the strengths and differences of varying age groups to get jobs done.

Tan spoke before the members of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) during the organization’s 2019 AmCham Talent Summit, a special annual event of the Human Capital and Resources committee, in partnership with Education committee.

With the theme “The Future is Now: Transforming the Workplace for the Gen Z”, the event aims to address the changing imperatives of the future workplace, identify opportunities and challenges, and develop strategic responses to ensure smooth transition for both leaders and the emerging workforce of the future—the Gen Z.

Tan was among the speakers who shared her expertise on the importance of power skills to manage a workplace composed of individuals with varying behaviors, beliefs, skills, and interests.

Of this, Tan—the head and the youngest member of MFT’s management committee—highlighted how she is able to lead a purpose-driven company by encouraging a common ground among employees—young and old.

She recommended for companies to do goal setting across generations, establish team norms, re-energize compensation and benefits, structure constant mentoring programs, and to tap into diverse recruitment pools.

This way, there will be added value and productivity in the workplace with stronger collaboration among different generations.
